General Facts about Hybrids! A Hybrid Vehicle contains two sources of energy that powers the vehicle: a normal internal combustion engine and HIGH VOLTAGE battery electric system. The HV batteries used to power these vehicles are 330 volts and can deliver 100 amps of current!! (SEE Hybrid electrical diagram) The driver cannot select the power source and it is unknown to the Emergency Responder which system is providing power. Electric cables run under the vehicle from front to back and voltage can be in these cables at anytime! According to hybrid vehicle manufacturers a Hybrid must be "Powered Down" prior to starting any extrication attempts.
Learn how to "Power Down" a HYBRID VEHICLE to keep your Emergency Responders SAFE! Contact Us for training information! Training includes:
- Hybrid Technology - "How they operate."
- How to identify a Hybrid vehicle.
- Which manufacturers make hybrids?
- Where are the "Power Down" components located?
- Special PPE required.
- How to manage a Hybrid High Voltage battery.
- HANDS-ON Training on the 'SIMULATORS!'
- Use our PPE on the 'SIMULATORS!'
- Firefighting tactics.
